The 1960s witnessed significant efforts in the development of recreational technologies to benefit persons with developmental disabilities. According to a survey conducted by the Nesbitt,164 recreational technologies had been created for arts, camping, crafts, cycling, dance, drama, fishing, fitness, games, gardening, hobbies, hunting, music, play, sports, travel and writing. The results of the survey also indicated that through creativity, determination, adaptation and assistive technology, every person, regardless of ability, could experience the essential aspects of every recreation activity. The purpose of this development project is to provide a contemporary outlet for capturing and capitalizing on the wealth of creativity, determination and inspiration of engineers, students, people with disabilities and others, who are committed to designing and developing recreational and exercise technologies for people with disabilities.
