Rectech Research Project Facilitates Systemic Change in Two States
The collaborative participatory action research (PAR) approach to conducting action-oriented accessibility assessments developed by Rectech has now been adopted as a standard of practice by the Montana Disability and Health Program and the North Carolina Office on Disability and Health. The approach is based on research begun in the previous cycle of Rectech and continued in the current research project R3 Online Environmental Assessment Tool for Fitness and Recreation Facilities. In the approach, people with disabilities, fitness professionals and facility managers cooperate in conducting an assessment of a facility using the Accessibility Instruments Measuring Fitness and Recreation Environments (AIMFREE) to develop action plans for rapid and cost-effective improvements in the accessibility of recreation and fitness venues.
