Recent Accomplishments:- Quarterly meetings have been conducted both in person in Indianapolis, IN and by teleconference with Jim Whitehead and other lead staff at ACSM to ensure timely progression of this project.
- It was determined by ACSM that an article and CEU opportunity for its members would be distributed in 2006 through the Certified News electronic publication that reaches over 14,000 Certified members of ACSM which includes the alliance of health and fitness professionals, clinicians, physicians, researchers, and educators in the area of exercise. This article will focus on physical activity and disability.
- The RERC RecTech team will collaborate with ACSM and Human Kinetics to provide and on-line education opportunity in the area of recreation technology and disability and exercise. Continuing education on-line courses are designed to give a meaningful opportunity to interact with the subject matter in a way that will facilitate learning. This on-line curriculum will be offered through the following link http://acsm.hkeducationcenter.com and on the National Center on Physical Activity and Disability website http://www.ncpad.org.
- The Inclusive Fitness Initiative developed through an external grant from Life Fitness Academy has been successfully delivered at the Canadian Fitness Professionals Conference (CanFitPro) and in North Carolina in a collaborative effort with the NC Office on Disability and Health. These trainings served over 85 individuals which included 12 branches of the Northwest North Carolina division of YMCAs. The Inclusive Fitness Curriculum will also be delivered in November of 2006 at the Medical Fitness Association’s national conference. Additional trainings have included two webinars hosted by American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) on Physical Activity Assessment for people with disabilities.
